At Onyx, we're growing. So much that I had to donate some of my skinny-jeans to Goodwill. But that's not the point. We're doing big things and with big things come opportunities. We are giving an open call for portfolio submissions, right here, right now. Our Creative Department is looking for a talented Web Designer that can work and grow with us... we want someone who can melt our monitors with awesomeness, one pixel at a time.

Web Designer w/ Wicked Ninja Skills Needed

Onyx, a Florida based creative consulting studio is seeking a multi-talented individual to design engaging, interactive experiences for our diverse clients. Collaboration, diligence and the discipline to follow strict style guides and timelines are prerequisites for success in this role. Only design professionals with a well-established portfolio and web design experience should apply.

About Onyx: We believe design can create significant impact in our lives, communities and for our clients. We are a fun, creative team that uses strategy and humor to carve out a place for design at every tier of an organization. We are looking for individuals who share this passion and dedication.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop concepts, prototypes and final designs for website projects
  • Make revisions as necessary to incorporate feedback from the internal team and from clients
  • Work with our web developers as sites or applications are built, managing the quality assurance process so that final product matches approved design and functionality
  • Maintain existing client websites through ongoing production work
  • Establish and maintain client style guides to ensure design consistency and brand integration across a variety of media
  • Collaborate with copywriters, web developers, designers and art directors throughout project life-cycle
  • Help with concepts and designs for other projects
     

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for pushing boundaries and designing exceptional online experiences
  • A cutting-edge portfolio and a desire to keep up with current trends
  • 5+ years of web design experience
  • Experience with designing websites, HTML e-mails, banner ads, and landing pages
  • Advanced expertise with PhotoShop and Illustrator
  • HTML and CSS skills
  • Javascript and/or Flash is a plus
  • Understanding of SEO and how to design for search engines
  • Strong knowledge of web design standards and user experience design best practices, such as browser display issues, mobile applications, social media applications and how design impacts the user, etc.
  • Experience working from information architecture documents such as wireframes and technical requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and a variety of creative deliverables simultaneously
  • Remain on top of the industry trends and techniques
  • Good organization skills
  • Must love design, details, collaboration and a fast paced environment

you should know

Angel Acevedo has been working in the creative industry for approximately 10 years. He began his career as an entry level Designer at various print shops in Miami, FL where he steadily climbed the creative ladder while maintaining a cultural, reactionary and inventive form of clever creative.

His work is featured in various creative community sites, magazines and books in addition to regular features in design blogs that recognize him for his graphic design, photography and print work .

Angel has won several Gold and Silver ADDY Awards for Onyx along with numerous student Awards, including a scholarship that helped him complete his academic career.

Angel has a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Miami International University of Art and Design along with a Commercial Certification from Robert Morgan Vocational Center.  During his time at Miami International, he was president of the local AIGA school chapter.
