David Elgena is the retweet master who won our Make Beautiful Things Poster and became our October Sidekick. We like to spend some time getting to know our Sidekicks a little better, and we learned some really interesting stuff about David that we want to share!
Q. Please state your name, age and hometown (and twitter handle if you have one).
David Elgena, 25, Philadelphia, @DeElgena
Q. How do you spend a typical day?
I’m currently the Director of a new art space in Miami called The Artisan Lounge…so my typical days are continually changing between being a web designer, curator, manager, salesman and artist. The most consistent thing though, is in a typical day I will without fail, at some point in the day, go to the gym, eat toast with peanut butter and banana, drink either a cup of hot tea or coffee…and then usually end the day working on some side project, product development or new idea.
Q. What would your rapper name be?
I’d probably go with Lil’ Wrapper, and I would wrap everything in cellophane wrappers, including my posse.

Q. Coffee of choice?
Espresso, unless it’s winter…then It’s Peppermint Mochas all day, every day.
Q. Favorite Disney character?
I’m going to have to say Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. She was pretty rad, plus the idea of Atlantis is just way too cool to ignore.
Q. If you could spend one day working for Onyx, what would you do for us?
Well, I’m a designer, so I guess I would do some design, and then I’d try to recruit the whole staff into my Lil’ Wrapper posse…I’d offer free cellophane hats, so it’d be hard to resist.
Q. If you could use the Onyx staff’s skills for one day, what would you have us do for you?
I’d leverage the amazingly talented staff at Onyx to launch my professional rapping career, starting with my Lil’ Wrapper album cover art for my new album, “The Cellophane Game”.
Q. What inspires you?
Books. I love architecture and design books, as well as books on random topics. I think the key to being inspired is to continually expand your horizons…it increase the chances of happy accidents, which is more valuable than gold to a creative.
Q. What’s the most beautiful thing you have seen recently?
I went to South Beach last weekend to watch the sunrise…I could go a hundred more times and it wouldn’t be any less beautiful.
Q. If you could put the Onyx dot anywhere in the world, where would you put it?
I’d put it in Tuscany, Italy…I get to take it there right?
Q. If you had to pick a name for the Onyx dot what would you call it?
It’s definitely throwing off a Samuel vibe.
