Someone in the office ordered a new pair of shoes from Zappos.com and something about the packaging caught my eye. On the box it said “Trends change overnight – that’s why we have next day shipping.” It got me thinking - are we so set in our ways that we let opportunities pass us by without the will to change and create solutions? Are we willing to develop and provide services that our clients would benefit from, or are we so set on our clients fitting in the boxes that we have made? Zappos, a customer service company that just happens to sell shoes and apparel, is known for their great company culture and service.
If you value your job you must be willing to change and adapt. With the ever changing economy, business owners are always changing their tactics to achieve success. Employees must do this as well. In my time here at Onyx, I have had four different titles/positions, and recently returned back to one that needed to be brought back up to speed. Working in a small organization – everyone must be willing to contribute and adapt to goals for success. Pointing fingers and sighs will get you a pink slip. Solutions and great efforts will get you a thumbs-up, maybe two (and even better - more $$).
You have to be hungry for success to make it happen. Have you ever seen someone trying to catch a chicken? They have to chase the chicken around wherever it might go in order to catch it. They have to stay committed and focused on that goal. If they keep walking a straight line – hoping the chicken will come right to them—it will not happen. You have to be willing to change and pursue your goal. By no means am I saying, chase your goals aimlessly without a plan, but be willing to adapt to change and to your client's needs. In today’s economy – clients and success won’t fall into your lap. You have to chase it – nipping at its heels every day. Eventually you will get close enough to reach out and grab it.
Change happens – will you be ready?
