The Client

Over the past year, Onyx has gotten to know Barineau Heating and Air Conditioning from the inside out. Through brand management, we have pushed Barineau outside the box to develop creative social media, print and digital campaigns. 

The Challenge

Barry, an extraordinarily average man with superpower heating and air conditioning skills, made his local TV debut in a 30-second commercial during the 45^th Super Bowl. After 5 months on the air, it was time for a second Barry spot. We wanted to continue Barry’s story with the same spirit as the first commercial: rugged manliness with a twist of humor. 

The Video

We locked down the commercial concept after many collaborative sessions, script changes and storyboard sketches. We started the second commercial at the Barineau parts warehouse, where Barry suited up for his mission in the first commercial. He is now ready to hit the road in his iconic work truck. Barry’s truck is his trusty sidekick, like Batman’s Batmobile. Barry counts on this faithful companion to get him to his customers. But just like we've all experienced, he discovers that his keys are locked in the truck. Barry is built up to be an unstoppable hero and is then brought down to Earth. While he is a superbly skilled air conditioning expert, Barry is still just an "average Joe" with whom all of us can relate and laugh.

The Site

The Onyx web development team created a splash page – www.whatbarryknows.com- featuring an updated interactive quiz, energy tips and Barry’s Tweets. The site helps bring Barry to life by giving him a home outside of his commercial. The site has been revamped to coincide with the new commercial.

The Results

The Barineau family has embraced Barry as a true part of their team. We are continuing to brainstorm new ideas for Barry, from Barry baseball caps to Barry coloring books. He is often a topic of conversation, and we can't wait to see where Barry goes next.
